Resilience Festival 2016

A Celebration of Community Resiliency in Guelph

The Resilience Festival is an amazing festival hosted by Transition Guelph. The festival focuses on sharing all things Transition Guelph with the community at large! The festival first launched in 2010 and focused on the Earth Hour Potluck, a huge gathering of friends and family to share a candle lit meal together. Since then, the festival has grown in shape and size over the last six years, but we still host our Earth Hour Potluck! Every year we partner with a number of other local organizations and people who share the festival’s focus of living more lightly and richly on our planet.

In 2016, the Resilience Festival will run from Thursday March 17th to Sunday March 20th and feature a number of events from previous years, and a few new events we think you’ll love.

University of Guelph Sustainability Week

Monday March 14th 2016 at Various Locations

Small Steps to Big Change March 14-19, 2016 Sustainability Week is a collaborative effort among multiple students, organizations, departments, faculty and community members who want Guelph and its community to engage with environmental challenges. This year, S-week is going to be filled with phenomenal speakers, workshops, concerts, events and collaborations within the Guelph community. View Event Details

Builders’ Symposium: Intentional Communities and Co-Housing in Guelph

Thursday March 17th 2016 at 6pm – 9pm

Intentional Communities and Co-Housing in Guelph 7:00 – 9:30  Thurs, Mar 17th 2016 Intentional Communities are small groups of folk seeking a communal, resilient lifestyle based on eco and social values.  Come hear about Intentional Communities in Guelph including Sustainable Intentional Living Community (SILC), Meadowview eco-community, plus several co-housing initiatives in the City. View Event Details

Film: Revolution

Friday March 18th 2016 at 6pm – 9pm

Revolution is an exhilarating and hard-hitting full length feature film from award-winning Sharkwater filmmaker Rob Stewart. Not only does it shed light on crucial environmental topics and how we can save the planet, but he shows how past world events have taught us what we need to do to save the future. View Event Details

Seedy Saturday

Saturday March 19th 2016 at 10am – 4pm

Guelph Seedy Saturday is an accessible event that encourages healthy relationships with nature. People come to learn and share information about sustainable gardening practices. The availability of organic, open-pollinated seeds is central to the event’s purpose. At every Seedy Saturday there is a community seed exchange table and more. View Event Details

Minga Reskilling Fair

Saturday March 19th 2016 at 11am – 3pm

Take back your self-sufficiency by doing things for yourself. Reskilling helps you and your community to grow, preserve, create, build and teach with many of the basic skills our grandparents took for granted! Donations accepted. View Event Details

GCAT: Street Films

Saturday March 19th 2016 at 11am – 12:30pm

Join GCAT at the Festival main day for an exploration in active transportation at 11:00am – 12:30pm. The Guelph Coalition for Active Transportation (GCAT) will be presenting several videos for discussion from the following website: http://www.streetfilms.org/ The presentation will examine the advocacy, planning and design of active transportation (AT) infrastructure.  View Event Details

Earth Hour Potluck

Join us for our eight annual Earth Hour pot luck! Members, guests and friends of TG are welcome to an informal pot-luck meal to celebrate Earth Hour in a friendly, candle-lit setting. As part of Guelph’s annual Resilience Festival, eMERGE is once again hosting the Guelph ecomarket on Saturday, March 19th! This event will showcase ways to reduce your environmental impact with green ideas, services and technologies for your home, business or community. H20 GO Festival

Saturday March 19th 2016 at 10am – 2pm

An event celebrating water! This free, family-friendly event includes engaging, hands-on children’s activities, interactive displays, a variety of water–related information booths, and thought–sharing through art and science for people of all ages. View Event Details

The Big Beat

Saturday March 19th 2016 at 7:30pm – 11:00pm

After the Earth Hour Potluck, come celebrate the transition into Spring through the BIG BEAT experience! We build community and connectivity through dancing, drumming, singing, and sounding. The evening culminates with the Dreaming section… bring a yoga mat, lie down, and take in music as medicine. Bring a drum, a yoga mat and your dancing feet. View Event Details

OPIRG Guelph’s Social and Environmental Justice Symposium

The OPIRG Guelph’s Social and Environmental Justice Symposium is a convergence of academic and community research, activism, and art focused on social and environmental justice issues. We are aiming to make research more accessible to all and to foster deeper relationships and idea sharing between academics and community activism. View Event Details

Partner Yoga

Sunday March 20th 2016 at TBD

Come celebrate the bonds that hold community together by practicing some fun partner yoga (no need to bring your own partner). In this workshop, led by Jessica Martin, we will try out poses that are joyful and celebratory, and teach about our beautiful interdependence with each other. No yoga experience necessary. Narratives Workshop: Exploring Stories

Sunday March 20th 2016 at 2pm – 5pm

A story can change meaning entirely depending on where you end it. In this narratives workshop participants will be have the opportunity to tell their story of transition: How they came to a point of crisis (small or large) regarding Transition-related issues (for example, climate change, economic instability, peak oil) and how they moved through and then past that point of crisis. Participants will use writing, collage, drawing or other mediums to explore their story, and then have the option of sharing with the group. View Event Details
