Welcome to the Guelph Wellington Time Bank!

What is a Time Bank?

Within a Time Bank, for every hour that you volunteer to meet the needs of another member, you earn a time credit for the exchange. This time credit can then be redeemed for services from any other member of the Time Bank. Every person has something to share — skills, knowledge, talent, strength, or companionship — that is of value to another, and everyone’s time is valued equally.

We welcome new members at any time. There is a three-step process for joining:

1. Fill in an application. Join here!

We will ask you for some basic contact information as well as two character references. These references can be from friends, neighbours, colleagues – anyone who knows you well. An existing member of the Time Bank would be ideal. They are intended to establish your ‘good name’ as a helpful person, and do not need to prove that you have a particular skill or work experience. After we call one or both of your references, we will be in touch with you to invite you to an orientation.

2. Attend an orientation.

A coordinator will meet with you, or with a group of applicants, to give you a ‘tour’ of the Time Bank. We want you to understand how to use it, and help you identify some services you may wish to offer or ask for. As well, you will be asked to read, agree to, and sign all of our policies:

3. Finalize your profile.

Let everyone know more about you! Please consider posting a profile photo, joining some of the groups that match your interests, identifying your neighbourhood, and so on. Then create the requests and offers that you want other members to hear about in the weekly email messages.

Time Bank is free to join, thanks to financial support from Transition Guelph, the Elevator Project, and the City of Guelph’s Community Wellbeing Grant Program.
