The Transition Guelph

The Treemobile is now over for the fall season. We intend to run two Treemobiles per year: in the spring we will be offering fruit-bearing trees and shrubs; in the fall we will be offering shade and nut trees. We will send out broadcast emails to all of our members when Treemobile ordering is again available. For more information, please check our the Treemobile FAQ, or you can email treemobile@transitionguelph.org.

About the Treemobile...

Have you ever wanted fruit trees in your yard, but were unsure about what to plant, or where, or where best to obtain them? What about care and feeding? Or are you thinking about planting some berry shrubs like mulberry, blackberry or raspberry, but balk at the cost of commercially available plants? The Transition Guelph Treemobile can help!

The Treemobile is a volunteer-run project of Transition Guelph that can provide fruit-bearing trees and shrubs to our members at as low-cost as we can, deliver them to your door, and offer location and plant care consultation (by phone or email), and even do the planting!*

At this point, we're still treating The Treemobile as a pilot project, so for the time being we're limiting ordering to Transition Guelph members. To place an order via our online order form, you will need to log in to your member account first. (This is easy to do, and if you've never done it before, there are instructions below to walk you through it.) Should we not sell out of our trees and shrubs by the end of the first phase, we will also open up sales to members of our partner organizations.

The goals of the Transition Guelph Treemobile are:

  1. To increase our community's resilience by planting more food-bearing trees and shrubs in the urban environment;
  2. To increase the urban tree canopy, thus improving air quality, soil binding, temperature moderation and carbon absorption in the area;
  3. To accomplish the above by making hardy, disease-resistent, climate-appropriate, and flavourful food-bearing trees and shrubs available to our members and Guelph residents at reasonable cost; and
  4. Promote and encourage the planting of local, heritage breeds of fruit and nut trees, and fruit-bearing shrubs.

Oh, and there's another goal too... to increase FUN! And that's what our Treemobile volunteers are doing: getting out into the fresh air, working together to make things grow, learning about tree planting and care, helping our environment and our community, and having a blast doing it! Want to increase your fun level? You can volunteer too!

We're sorry. The Treemobile is now

We'll send out a notification by email to all members when the Treemobile is open again.
Thank you for your interest!

* We'll dig the hole, too, but hole-digging services are intended mostly for customers who are unable to do it themselves. We encourage those who are able to do so to pre-dig the hole(s), if possible. Consultation on choosing a suitable location, soil preparation, hole size and depth, selecting the appropriate species and breed, and maintenance is available on request. The Treemobile volunteers will do the planting, add compost and mulch, and do an initial watering.

Another terrific, resilience-building initiative from Transition Guelph!
