Farmers' Markets During a Pandamic

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

Farmers’ markets are a critical income source for local farmers, an important source of healthy food for the community, support the local economy, and supports a rural-urban connection.

Our future food security depends on encouraging more local, small-scale producers and the organizations that support their business.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, it is ideal that farmers’ markets have found safe ways to operate, and we support the ongoing efforts to keep them open and healthy places for people to access nutritious, local food.

Transition Guelph was one of a number of Ontario organizations and individuals that successfully petitioned the provincial government to declare Farmers’ Markets as essential services.
